The wondrous ways of art

As we are here in Deutschland Result one of the leading auction houses offering Kim Tschang-Yeul's works and our new consignor of the water droplets now to be auctioned on and so the painting came to us from Munich, which but originally also comes from the Ruhr region, more precisely from Bochum.
Art in times of political upheaval
Kim Since the early 1970s, Tschang-Yeul has devoted himself to almost meditative depictions of water droplets in his paintings. He is therefore also known as "Water Drops Kim".
His work and his life was strongly influenced by the difficult political circumstances in Korea. He was born in Maengsan, now North Korea, in 1929. He was also arrested there at times until he fled to Seoul after the division of the country. He later moved to Paris, where he died in 2021.
Alongside Lee Ufan and Nam June Paik, he is considered one of Korea's most successful contemporary artist . He first studied at Seoul National University and later at the Art Students League of New York, for which he received a scholarship. From the very beginning of his career, he has been committed for art and was inducted into the "Ordre des Arts et des Lettres" and received an award for his cultural merits in 2013.

Kim Tschang-Yeul - Between fragility and Eternity
With an extraordinary technique and meticulous details, Kim Tschang-Yeul creates illusions that captivate the viewer time and time again. His clear, hyper-realistic depictions of water droplets - and it are always clear drops of water that differ only in shape and number - are painted so naturalistically, that you feel as if you can touch them. Their fragile appearance gives the impression that that they could melt away at any moment. The filigree nature of the drops could burst or even be absorbed by the porous structures of the background, and yet all the drops of water on in his paintings have already withstood for decades. and so his art remains a perfect balance between reality and abstraction, between tangible form and poetic lightness. The drops are transparent and yet complex, they embody lightness and and at the same time a sense of transience that leaves the viewer silent. The fascination that emanates from these water drop pictures lies in their simplicity and depth at the same time. Kim Tschang-Yeul's drops symbolize purity, transience and perhaps even the fleeting moments of life. He transformed the everyday into art by staging drops of water as a metaphor for memories and emotions. Every drop seems to tell a story - and this makes his works so unmistakable and desirable. It is therefore it even not surprising that that we come across them in connection with weddings. As gifts or investments.
We are delighted to once again be able to offer a painting by Kim Tschang-Yeul in our oeuvre. We cordially invite you to view the painting in our exhibition rooms.
