The Art Düsseldorf had to be cancelled three times during the pandemic years. Now it started at an unusual time of year, but more recently hybrid.
how As usual, many regional galleries presented themselves on at Art DUS. However, those who could or wanted to be there live as a collector not had the opportunity to book a live stream tour.
50 Art Guides were trained in advance to guide interested customers through the fair via live transmission on 12 different languages. Art Düsseldorf thus sees itself as the first art fair to revolutionize the trade fair landscape with this concept.
The fair was subsidized this year with funds from "Neustart Kultur", a comprehensive rescue and program for the future for the culture and media sector. for all of the 85 participating galleries, the stand rent was thus reduced by 70%. In addition to the regional focus, this year's fair was also increasingly open to some foreign gallery owners, e.g. from Austria or New York.
Talented young artists next to well-known greats of the art scene
it was a lot to see. We spent 3 hours on the Böhler site and could have stayed even longer. Besides highlights by artists how Tony Cragg, Heinz Mack or Norbert Kricke, many colorful works of art caught one's eye and were simply fun to look at.
Strongly represented were many sculptural works, how for example a wall sculpture in holographic optics by Berta Fischer, an installation of red steel guard rails by Bettina Pousttchi or the oversized yellow rubber boots of Lilian Bourgeat directly at the entrance of the left hall.
Also striking, that more and more female artists are finding their way into the art fairs. Among other things, we liked the object of the Belgian Joëlle Dubois very well, which the selfie suitability of the female body, in particular the sex, humorously on 16 sheets. All 16 sheets were already sold on the 1st day for 600 € each.
David against Goliath?
The Rhineland is one of the most important art marketplaces, you can not just knock out two fairs in every state, but here it makes perfect sense.
Art measurement director Walter Gehlen - n-tv interview
It remains to be seen whether both fairs, the young, hip Art Düsseldorf and the long-established Art Cologne, will coexist. Before Corona, Art Düsseldorf was held in the fall; Art Cologne has now secured this date.
The half-yearly offset of the two fairs is in any case advantageous from our point of view on and can be maintained gladly so !
